Nelson Mandela was born 18
July 1918 in the village Mvezo. His hole name is Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. He
was the first black president of South Africa. In 1963 he was sent to prison in
Robben Island. That was because he was the leader of the people who were
against apartheid. He was released in 1990.
He also likes rugby.
He became president in 1994.
He wanted to stop the apartheid, and he made it. He retired from his president
position in 1999.
In 2001 he was diagnosed with
cancer (prostate cancer). He died in Johannesburg in 2013.
